Research Areas


As to achieve our goal, the research areas in CIoTBD are divided into four focused research groups. They are Computer Vision and Machine Learning, Internet of Things and Data Analytics, Software, Systems, and Humans, and Computing in Healthcare.

COMPUTER VISION AND MACHINE LEARNING

This research group consists of researchers who are focusing on image and video analysis and machine learning. Area of interest includes:

  • Machine automation thru machine vision and learning, video surveillance, vision-based underwater monitoring system, vision-based advanced driver assistive systems (ADAS), expert system for suspicious behavior detection, fruit ripeness prediction, and etc.       

INTERNET OF THINGS (IoT) AND DATA ANALYTICS

The computer scientists in this research group are focusing on wireless sensor networks, smart home / village / city, precision agriculture, and data analytics for business and finance. These include the following:
  • Smart IoT-gateway and sensor nodes, data analytic framework and analytic techniques, application of blockchain in healthcare and IoT, wireless body and area network, and etc. 


SOFTWARE, SYSTEMS, AND HUMANS

This research group focuses on software engineering, digital economy, information systems, big data, knowledge management, social networks, cyber-security, cyber-psychology, and e-learning. These include the area of interest as follows:

  • Global software development trends in Malaysia, maturity model in enterprise business intelligence systems, system quality on service oriented business intelligence architecture social cognitive theory, feature based detection of malware threat prediction, cyber security behaviour, and etc. 

COMPUTING IN HEALTHCARE

The experts in this group focuses on biomedical imaging and healthcare, medical imaging equipment and tools, 3D modeling and printing, and image and signal processing for healthcare. The area of interest includes:

  • Predictive algorithm in biomedical imaging and healthcare, 3 rendered images for surgical planning, design of vein localization and depth estimation in embedded system  and etc.
